Prepare a Great CV
The first step is to prepare an up-to-date CV, including contact details of current and previous employers, references and original documents verifying your qualifications, courses attended, immigration and work permit status. Your CV should be no more than 3 pages long, which you can achieve by using bullet points under headings such as Personal Details, Past Employment, Achievements, Qualifications and Interests. Keep it professional and do not add anything fancy such as photos or borders. And above all, make sure to check your spelling!
Practice Interview Techniques
Prepare by researching the company's website, preparing questions about the role and company, dress professionally, bring your up-to-date CV, arrive early enough to have nerve settling coffee and walk in to reception 5 minutes early. Smile and offer a firm handshake, sit comfortably with your hands in your lap, maintain good eye contact, show genuine enthusiasm for the role, answer questions factually and sincerely (avoiding too much detail) and focus on positives about your past employers. Finish by thanking the interviewer and express your interest in the role.
